From 20th of May 2016, Join Circular No. 05/2016/TTLT-BKHCN-BKHDT (Circular 05) by Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) in coordination with Ministry of Planning & Investment (MPI), detailing and providing guidance on handling IPR infringement in Vietnam came into effect.
The multiple-class application for trademark in Laos officially allow as from February 01, 2016. It provides the new option for Applicants who are interested in filing trademark in Laos. Depending on the brand registration and development strategy as well as protection for trademark in Laos, the Applicant can choose the Single-class or Multi-class application.
The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) and Cambodia’s Ministry of Industry and Handicraft (MIH) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) enhancing the ties between two countries in terms of Intellectual Property protection on 2015. Most notably, according to the MoU, MIH recognize patents granted and industrial designs registered by IPOS as well as patent search and examination reports from IPOS.
A well-known trademark in Vietnam would be protected, irrespective of whether they are registered or not. However the owners have to prove the well-known characters and their trademarks satisfy the conditions for being considered well-known.
In fact, the conflict often occurs mainly between owners of trademark in Vietnam and the subject who register domain name for registration, possess and dispose of domain names.

Although Vietnam has not yet been official member of Nice Agreement, the Nice Classification – 10th Edition is being adopted for classification for filing trademark application in Vietnam as well as calculating the Official fees and scope of trademark protection.
As a new development, from September 1, 2015, Vietnam National Office of Industrial Property (NOIP) officially recognizes The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS)
