We are pleased to inform you about an important development in the legal landscape of Myanmar. The State Administration Council (SAC) of Myanmar has officially announced the enforcement date of the Patent Law, which was enacted by the Assembly of the Union (Pyidaungsu Hluttaw) as Law No. 7 of 2019.

The Patent Law aims to provide comprehensive legal protection for inventions, fostering innovation and encouraging investment in new technologies. This law will play a crucial role in shaping the future of intellectual property rights in Myanmar.
Current Status and Future Expectations:
At the moment, it is clear that a Patent previously recorded under a Declaration of Ownership (DOO) at the Office of the Registration of Deeds (ORD) cannot be re-registered due to the lack of novelty. However, the Patent Rules, Patent application forms, relevant government fees are not issued yet. It is expected that the Patent applications in Myanmar will be able to be filed around the Fourth Quarter of 2024.
